Vocabulary of Unit 8

一点儿 yìdiǎnr is placed after the verb and means "a little." Example: 我会说一点儿中文。 I can speak a little Chinese.

有点儿 yǒudiǎnr is placed before the verb and often carries a negative or awkward nuance. Example: 我有点儿喜欢她。 I like it a little (implying: it's a bit embarrassing). Not to be confused with 一点儿 which is placed after the verb.

了 le is a very important modal particle in Chinese. In this unit, it is used at the end of a sentence to indicate a change of state: something new has happened. Example: 我二十岁了。 I am (now) twenty years old. See the grammar of this unit for more details.
