Learning Chinese: vocabulary Unit 5

To practice memorizing vocabulary in writing, make a list of the vocabulary in Chinese characters only, then try to recall the pinyin and the English. Repeat until you make no mistakes. Then do the same exercise in reverse, that is, writing the list in English and recalling the characters and the pinyin.

Nouns

人 rén: person, human

国 guó: (country) not used alone

中国 Zhōngguó: China

法国 Fǎguó: France

英国 Yīngguó: England

美国 Měiguó: United States

汉语 Hànyǔ: Chinese (spoken language)

中文 Zhōngwén: Chinese (written and spoken language)

汉字 Hànzì: Chinese characters

Personal pronouns

您 nín: you (polite form)

我们 wǒmen: we

你们 nǐmen: you (plural)

他们 tāmen: they, them (masc.)

她们 tāmen: they, them (fem.)

Verbs

说 shuō: to speak, to say

写 xiě: to write

学 xué: to study, to learn

会 huì: to know (how to do)

Adverbs & Particles

都 dōu: all, every

们 men: plural suffix

是的 shìde: that's right

Interrogative

哪 nǎ: which, which one (countable)
