Vocabulary of Lesson 8

To practice writing and memorizing vocabulary, make a list of the vocabulary in Chinese characters only, then try to recall the pinyin and French translations. Repeat until there are no mistakes. Then, do the same exercise in reverse, writing the list in French and recalling the characters and pinyin.

Nouns

猫 māo : cat

狗 gǒu : dog

学校 xuéxiào : school / educational establishment

Proper nouns

北京 Běijīng : Beijing (capital of the north)

小雨 Xiǎoyǔ : Xiaoyu (first name, “little rain”)

Pronouns

大家 dàjiā : everyone, everybody

它 tā : it (animal or object)

它们 tāmen : they (animals or objects)

Verbs

爱 ài : to love (romantically), to adore

玩 wán : to play, to have fun

喜欢 xǐhuan : to like, to enjoy

Adjectives

小 xiǎo : small

新 xīn : new

漂亮 piàoliang : pretty, beautiful

好玩儿 hǎowánr : funny, amusing

Adverbs / Quantity expressions

一点儿 yìdiǎnr : a little (placed after the verb)

有点儿 yǒudiǎnr : a little (placed before the verb, with a negative nuance)

Particles & Classifiers

了 le : situation-change particle

只 zhī : small-animal classifier
