Vocabulary for Lesson 5

To practice retaining vocabulary in writing, list the vocabulary in Chinese characters only, then try to recall the pinyin and French meanings. Repeat until you can do it flawlessly. Then, do the same exercise in reverse: write the list in French and try to recall the characters and pinyin.

Nouns

人 rén : person, human

国 guó : (country) not used alone

中国 Zhōngguó : China

法国 Fǎguó : France

英国 Yīngguó : England

美国 Měiguó : United States

汉语 Hànyǔ : Chinese (spoken language)

中文 Zhōngwén : Chinese (written and spoken language)

汉字 Hànzì : Chinese characters

Personal pronouns

您 nín : you (polite form)

我们 wǒmen : we

你们 nǐmen : you (plural)

他们 tāmen : they, them (masculine)

她们 tāmen : they, them (feminine)

Verbs

说 shuō : to speak, to say

写 xiě : to write

学 xué : to study, to learn

会 huì : to know how to (do something)

Adverbs & Particles

都 dōu : all, both

们 men : plural suffix

是的 shìde : that's correct
