Geography of Beijing

Beijing is located in the north-east of China, 110 km northwest of the Bohai Sea. The city is located at latitude 39°54'20"N and longitude 116°23'29" E. It is at the same latitude as Ankara, the capital of Turkey.

Beijing's climate

Beijing's climate is continental with strong temperature variation. The maximum record is 41.1°C and the minimum record is -18.8°C. It rains especially in the summer: July is the wettest month with 15 days of rain while there are only one day of rain in November. Average temperatures range from -4°C for the coldest month to 26°C for the warmest month.

The Gobi desert is less than 100 km northeast of Beijing and sandstorms in autumn are quite common.
