Marouflage of Chinese painting

Material needed

- A very plane and plain surface without defect (very important) and impermeable, like a table for example.

- Two flat brushes: one of big size, the other of average size.

- An absorbing paper sheet (Xuanzhi) same size as painting to be treated.

- A not absorbing paper sheet (Shuxuan) a little larger than painting to be treated (for Gongbi paintings).

Or

- A second absorbing paper sheet (Xuanzhi) a little larger than painting to be treated (for Xieyi paintings).

Perfax adhesive or adhesive to do oneself (what we advise you) according to the following method:

The adhesive

Ingredients:

- white flour: 250 G.

- alum (in pharmacy): 5 G.

- clean water: 700 ml.

Preparation of the adhesive: Put in a container 250 G. of flour and 5 G of alum. Slowly add tepid water while stirring up the mixture until obtaining a viscous paste. Then slowly add ebullient water while stirring up until obtaining a translucent and elastic paste. Your adhesive is ready!

For paintings Gong Bi:

  1. Put the absorbing paper sheet (Xuanzhi) on the plane surface.
  2. Lay adhesive vertically and horizontally with the flat brush of average size.
  3. Put your painting the side paints upwards.
  4. Put the not absorbing paper sheet (Shuxuan) on the painted face of your painting.
  5. With the large brush level the paper sheet so that there is no bubble.
  6. Then turn other the all and continue to level with the large brush.
  7. It getting dry then withdraw the not absorbing paper sheet (Shuxuan)
  8. Your painting is ready to be framed or assembled on rollers.

For paintings Xie Yi:

  1. Put the painting on the plane surface the face painted below.
  2. With the flat brush of average size apply the adhesive by raising painting and by put it slowly under the brush.
  3. Put the first absorbing paper sheet (Xuanzhi) with the exactly same method.
  4. Then turn over the painting.
  5. Put the second absorbing paper sheet (Xuanzhi) on the painted face of your painting and level with the large brush.
  6. Wait it getting dry then withdraw the absorbing paper sheet (Xuanzhi).
  7. Your painting is ready to be framed or assembled on rollers.
